Shubash, our former housekeeper/current buddy, posed for me so i did a hour-hour and a half oil sketch of him yesterday, today i tweeked some stuff for a half hour and soon i will finish it.
the red woman will completely change the next time you see it because i hate it right now. and we will see what happens with the greenish painting of the man walking... needs a lot more detail because right now it is too much an amorphous blob of shit :)

I have been working on this for the last week and a half and to tell you the truth I have just gotten tired of working on it and have decided that it is done. I am not as happy with the three figures as I would like but I can of rushed them into the composition and backtracking will be alot more work than i am willing to do... the ideas I want to push across are there and that is probably more important than getting burn out on a painting that is probably njot that good even if i did finish it. and besides, i have learned some stuff: despite how much i may want to start painting I should stop rushing the compositions and put a bit more effort into the prelim drawings. The inspiration for this came from a painting of my dad during Bangladesh's liberation war in 1971. like alot of my previous work Im thinking about the lack of reliability in memories, reality in history both personal and not. I tried to be sudden with how i painted the three dissolving spectres/ghouls/memories but I need it to be more grounded next time... I have been looking at neo rausch and his work seems like at times he jusyt goes with the flow but it still seems deliberate, which i completely missed with this.

The unfinished painting of the three children singing which has alot less work time on it i think is already much more succesful, the paining is much more free but still seems deliberate. i think i will try to tighten the kids up a bit more, or at least work on their limbs, the foot in the foreground i want to change the colors to be a bit less purple... I think the painting has got an otto dix, turner, and dana shutz feel. i like where it is going.

This painting is for a class where we were supposed to collaborate with an artist from the Beijing film academy. My collaborator never responded to my email, so I found a painting by the artist Wei Dong (bottom) and decided to make a painting working off of his. Gorilla style collaboration or Plagiarism? Im not sure. Anyway I just started painting the figures and stuff last night, so right now it is little more than an unfinished sketch. I like where it is going though... it will be somewhere between realistic and cartoony as usual.
